This topic will lead to many discussions and sharing of personal stories around Internet Safety topics. It is critical that students know their parents should be involved in their online activities.

  • This is a simple one week WebQuest intended to provide middle school students with information on Internet Safety. As part of the Berkshire Wireless Learning Initiative, all Conte Middle School students must receive Internet Safety training prior to receiving their laptops. This is typically conducted in a large group setting with Conte's community officer, Fran Maruco. He uses a presentation available from Netsmartz, a site sponsored by the Center for Missing and Exploited Children http://www.netsmartz.org/

Extension Activities:

  • Have student create their own images for the brochure. These can be scanned and inserted into the brochure.
  • Create Internet Safety PowerPoint presentations for elementary students
  • Role play a cyberbullying incident and engage class in follow-up discussion
  • Create a monthly Cybersafety newsletter
  • Have students compose a Technology Safety Tip of the Day to be read during morning announcements.
  • Form an Internet Safety Team that meets outside the school day on a weekly/monthly basis to discuss issues and brainstorm proactive solutions.
